Sickle Cell Anemia - Part 1

In this section you will learn how to get started with the Biology Workbench; namely, opening an account, logging into your account, and creating a session (i.e. folder) to store your data.

 

1.  Open an Account.  If this is your first visit to the Biology Workbench; you need to open an account first.  It is free and it is available immediately.  Click here to see a video demo of this step.  In order to play these videos, you should have flashplayer plugin installed. You can download the plugin from here.

 

            Open a web browser  and go this url  http://workbench.sdsc.edu

            Click on the link register and you will be taken to the "User Registration" website

            Type in the required information and when done, click on the button Register

            Once your account is created, you will be taken to another website

            Click on the link that reads Biology Workbench to go to the main page

 

2.  Log in to your account. If you already register an account with the Biology Workbench; you need to log in to your account to start your work.     Click here to see a video demo of this step.  In order to play these videos, you should have flashplayer plugin installed.             From the main page of the Biology Workbench http://workbench.sdsc.edu

            Click on Click to Enter the Biology Workbench 3.2

            A popup window will prompt you for User Name and Password;

            Type your account  information and click OK

 

3.  Create a new Session.  Within the Biology Workbench, a session is the equivalent of a folder; in other words, it is where the Biology Workbench will store your data.  Click here to see a video demo of this step.  In order to play these videos, you should have flashplayer plugin installed.             From the Biology Workbench's main page, scroll down to the bottom of the screen

            Click on Session Tools

            From the window highlight the line that reads Start New Session and click Run

            You will be taken to another window

            Type the name of the new session, for example, Sickle Cell Anemia, in the space provided and then click the Start New Session button

            You will be taken to another window; you should see the session you just created in the list of sessions available to you.
